NEWS

*2016 OLYMPIANS!!! Nikki Okwelogu (Class of 2013) qualified to the Olympic Games in Rio. She will represent Nigeria in the Shot Put.
Brailin Paulino (Class of 2014) is in the Relay pool for the 4x100 representing the Dominican Republic.

*Boys team wins Frosh-Soph County Championships. Girls obtained 4th place.

*Girls team took 2nd place at Sanger Metric Invitational 2016.

*Coach Barbara Bethel awarded Track & Field Coach of the Year  2016 for her contributions and career as a coach. This  award is presented by the California Coaches Alliance.











*Arcadia & Mt. SAC provided great experiences for our team. Student-athletes and coaches competed, met colleges coaches and watched olympic athletes, national teams and collegians in action. Below is the team with Aston Eaton (World record Holder and Olympic Champ and World Champ and Canadian Record Brianne Thiessen).









*24 athletes competed at the San Leandro Invitational in the Bay Area and toured San Francisco. Shelby PV 12'4, Zach Pv 15', Nate 41.24 in 300H, Ryan 132 in DT, Maxwell 50.11 in 400 and Ryan 10:20 3200 were overall winners.








* Maxwell Bessard making history. New School Record in the 400m and All time top 10 marks on the 100, 200, relays and now pursuing LJ as well. Below he is pictured with Multiple Olympic champion Allyson Felix.







* Argentina's National Champion in Relays and Runner up in the 400 meters visited CW for some training leading to his international debut in California sharing his experiences with our team












*CW Alumnae (2013) Nikki Okwelogu obtained a 3rd place at the NCAA Indoor Nationals representing Harvard University. In the proccess she earned All-American honours and she is 3 inches away of the Olympic qualifying standard.










*CW Freshman Elizabeth Funk bettered for 5th time this season the freshman record in the pole vault (9'6-10'-10'6-10'9-11')









*Clovis West track took first in both boys and girls in the Rafer Johnson Invitational in Kingsburg. Over 20 teams competed.

*Clovis west track took second in a 20+ teams field at the Sanger Spring Classic.

*Practice is Monday thru Friday at 3:00PM SHARP!!! Rain or shine.
If there is a reason to cancel a practice it will be announced (We only cancelled 3 practices in the last 8 years) Practices are mandatory. You must attend practice daily or you may be removed from team. Communication is the key. Contact Coach Palavicini (martinpalavicini@cusd.com) or Coach Bethel (barbarabethel@cusd.com) prior to an absense. Examples of excused absents are funerals, medical emergencies, accidents, disease, and the likes. Examples of unexcused absenses are watching TV, "it was raining", "I did not feel like practicing", dinners, babysitting and attending a Justin Bieber concert.

*CW Track hosted the Elementary and Junior HS Track & Field Camps between January 28th and February 4th. Over 80 campers attended and experienced a wide variety of events while having fun!

*Coach Bethel and Coach Anderson attended coaching ed classes in San Francisco (CA) and Reno (NV) respectively.

*Coach Palavicini was a guest speaker at the Argentina's National team camp and coaches clinic in sprints, hurdles and relays. The event was hosted in Mar del Plata, Argentina last December.









*Clovis West High School’s track was jam packed with hundreds of local runners, volunteers and spectators who gathered Aug. 22 to celebrate the life of Alyssa Samansky, who was killed in 2005 at age 7. Participants competed in the 100-, 400-, 800- and 1600-meters, along with a 40-yard kids dash, a 4x400-meter relay, and long jump and shot put events.

*Thomas Luconi and Nick Wilcots over 5000 points in the Decathlon.

* End of the year Banquet and Awards Night: THURSDAY MAY 28th 6:00PM at CW Cafeteria. 

*STATE QUALIFIERS: Mikala 100m & 4x100, Shelby PV, Damaris TJ, Raquel DT, Brynley TJ, Destiny 4x100, Sawyer 4x100, Micah 4x100 and Maddie Fisher 4x100. Alternates: Zack PV, Max 400m.











*Congratulation to the new CIF Central Section Champions Shelby and Demaris.

* Largest meet ever hosted a CW. 71 races and 18 field events at the CW Area Elementary school meet. 

* 17 former Golden Eagles are currently competing at the collegian level (NCAA).

*Clovis West Track met Carl Lewis (9 times Olympic Champion) at the Mt.SAC Invitational. Also, met Alyson Felix, collegian coaches and athletes, national team coaches and athletes from other countries and have a former alumni and current NCAA Div I All-American (Anginae Monteverde) talking about the transition between high school and college and what it took for her to make it to the next level.













* 8 consecutive years of 20+ athletes qualifying to the ARCADIA INVITATIONAL

*State Ranked athletes: Brynley Bower(TJ), Damaris Hamilton (TJ), Donovan House (TJ), Zach Bethel (PV), Raquel Parker (DT).

*Practice on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during spring break. Check with your event coach for specifics.​

​*Both Boys and Girls team took 2nd places at the SANGER METRIC Invitational over 40 teams from Central California.

*Clovis West Team went to San Francisco and Bay Area competing in Saint Francis Invitational. The Girls team took 1st place among 60 teams from the central coast and bay area.












*Clovis West Alumni doing great things at the next level. 
Jessica Flores (Class of 2011) is leading NCAA Div 1 in the Hammer Throw. Anginae Monteverde (Class of 2011) competed at NCAA Indoor Nationals in the Pole Vault as well as Nikki Okwelogu (Class of 2013) in the shot put. Nikki earned All-American honors. Brailin Paulino (Class of 2014) was Runner up at the Ivy League Indoor Championships in the 200m. Anginae earned All-American Honors Outdoors with her 6th place.

*Please return all forms (Athlete agreement-Fundraising Sheet-Release for travel) to Coach P ASAP. 

* Clovis West Track co-hosted the USA Track & Field Coaching Level 1 Clinic and Certification for Coaches of all-levels. Former Youth National team Coach and Lead USATF Instructor Matt Lydum and 2 time Olympian, 21 time World Championship competitor Kathy Butler presented the Level 1 curriculum in the Lecture hall on December 12-13, 2014. 


*Brailin Paulino competed in the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Morelia, Mexico where he was 4th in the 4x100m with the Dominican Republic National team.






* 2013 Alumni Nikki Okwelogu was a finalist (11th Place Shot Put) at IAAF World Juniors Championships in Eugene. She also competed in the discus finishing 13th place in the WORLD! She competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland where she was 9th in the shot put and finished second at the African Championships in Morocco!!!











* Jr. Lyndsey Lopes sets a new Heptathlon Central Section Record 4982!! She is rank #5 in the country, #1 returnee on the event for 2015.









*Trevor Groom took 3rd place at the California State Championships in the pole vault clearing 16'0" (4.88m)











*Awards Night is THURSDAY 29th 6:00PM at CW Cafeteria

*Trevor Groom PV, Lyndsey Lopes HJ-100H-300H, Nate Gagliardi PV, Shelby Noble PV and Kaitlin Pacheco 1600 qualified for the California State Championships. 
Marcus Crouch 100m, Donovan House TJ, Brynley Bower TJ, Girls 4x100m, and Damaris Hamilton (300H & LJ) are alternates.

*Clovis West is the largest team at the Central Section meet. 37 student athletes qualified.

*Clovis West qualified more athletes (61) to the North Area meet than any other team in the area.

​*Alumni Nikki Okwelogu broke the Harvard record in the shot put winning the Ivy League Championships.

*Alumni Kellen Levy won back to back conference titles in the 10K at UC San Diego.

Lyndsey Lopes (HJ, 100H, 300H), Marcus Crouch (100, 4x100), Nate Gagliardi (PV), Noah Bessard (4x100), Darel Campbell (4x100) and Brailin Paulino (4x100).

*THANK YOU CW FAMILY!!! We hosted an outstanding Conference Championships at our track. 

*Alumni Nikki Okwelogu broke the Harvard school record in Discus!!! 

*Lyndsey Lopes is the new California State Champion in the Heptathlon and is now a co-section record holder (She shares the record with former Golden Eagle Alyssa Monteverde)

*25 student/athletes competed at Arcadia Invitational in LA area. Lyndsey Lopes obtained a 5th place in the heptathlon (unattached) for the #2 all-time in the Central Section. The boys 4x100 won in 42.96a (Noah Bessard-Darel Campbell-Brailin Paulino-Marcus Crouch).
Lyndsey Lopes is the new STATE CHAMPION in the HEPTATHLON!!!

*Brailin Paulino nominated for the U20 Dominican Republic National team
​​He will compete at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Morelia, Mexico.










*21 athletes competed at the St. Francis Invitational and visited San Francisco. Boys team was 2nd and girls team was 4th among 40 teams from Bay Area and the Central Coast.

*2013 Alumni Nikki Okwelogu won the ​Ivy League championships and bettered a Harvard school record that was 21 years old.

*Lyndsey Lopes competed at NB Indoor Nationals in New York. She obtained a 8th place in the Pentathlon. Lyndsey earned ALL-AMERICAN honors in Indoor Track!

*165 Athletes signed up for the 2014 season!!

* ClovisWest XC girls team obtained a second place at pretigious Manhattan College Invitational in New York City.
30 Golden Eagles athletes trained in Central Park, visit ground 0, the Statue of Liberty, Empire State, 5th Avenue, Broadway theathers (Attended Wicked) and were on TV as part of the Good Morning America show.

*USA Youth National Team won a record 17 medals at World Youth Championships in Ukraine this past July. Coach Palavicini was an assistant coach for the National Team.  

​*Lyndsey Lopes took 3rd Place in the heptathlon at the USATF Junior Olympics in Florida and finished top 6 at the USATF Youth Trials in St. Louis Missouri earlier in June. 














*NIKKI OKWELOGU IS THE NEW STATE CHAMPION IN DISCUS!!! NEW SCHOOL RECORD 173'9"
Nikki also obtained a 4th place in the shot put.
Lyndsey Lopes (10th grader)finished 9th in High Jump and 12th in 300H with a personal best of 44.28.
The Boys 4x100 relays finished 8th in their heat during qualifing rounds.

* 228 attended our End of the Year Banquet!!! THANK YOU to all of you that make it possible and thank you for your generosity and gifts. It was a great evening.

*Nikki Okwelogu won Shot and Discus at theValley Championships with new school record and state leading mark in the discus. Lyndsey Lopes qualified in 3 events fo the State Championships obtaining a 2nd place in the 300H and 3rd places in the High Jump and 100H. The Boys 4x100m also is going to state with a 3rd place finish. The team is Noah Bessard-Marcus Crouch, Brailin Paulino, Robert Johnson and alternate Max Bessard.

*36 Student-athletes qualified for the CIF Central section Championships (Valley).

*CW hosted the Golden Eagle Inv. for elementary schools. It was a great meet. THANK YOU to the 60 volunteers!

*Nikki Okwelogu NEW SCHOOL RECORD in Discus throw 164'1 is #1 in California. Also, new Freshman Record in 800m for Danielle Pacheco, Sophomore records for Lyndsey Lopes (HJ & 300H) and Demaris Hamilton in LJ.

*National ranking: Nikki Okwelogu #4 Discus #6 Shot, Lyndsey Lopes #4 Heptathlon.

*Coach Palavicini nominated for the USA National team as an Assistant Coach for the IAAF World Youth Championships in Ukraine.

*Taylor Samson signed letter of intent for California State University, Fresno.

* Nikki Okwelogu ranked #1 in the nation in the discus throw and #6 in shot put. Lyndsey Lopes (HJ-Hurdles), Raquel Parker (DT), Brailin Paulino (100-200), Trevor Groom (PV) are all ranked top 25 in the State of California. 

*New school record in 4 x 800m girls. Taylor Samson, Sawyer Lindsey, Kaitlin Pacheco & Danielle Pacheco took 3rd in Arcadia Invitational.

       IAAF World Junior Championships representing Nigeria in the discus throw.












      * CW Jr. Brailin Paulino won a silver medal in the 4x100m at the 2012 Central American &
       Caribbean Junior Championships in El Salvador. Brailin represented his birth country,
       the Dominican Republic. Coach Palavicini was an Assistant Coach for the Sprints and Relays.









      * Morgan Dutra, Lara Lewis, Ray Garcia, Jack Jackson, Nikki Okwelogu, Randeep Dhillon, Lindsey 
        Lopes, Zach Bethel an Reagan Smith competed at the USATF Youth National Championships in
         Arlington, Texas. Nikki is the new National Champion in the shot put.
